Service Inclusions/Policy: Video Cassette Conversions

Clean + Convert Service: This is our basic conversion service, performed direct to USB as high quality/high bit rate H264 mp4 files.

Because DVD is not a good long-term storage medium, we no longer have the equipment to do a direct DVD conversion. DVDs are available as an add-on extra only.


What you receive:

• Price includes a physical pre-transfer cleaning of the tape itself, so your tape is transferred in it’s best possible state. Tape cleaning can mean the difference between success & failure when saving your memories. This is why we have the highest transfer success rate in the industry.

• Price is a flat rate per tape, regardless of length.

• Transfer is DIRECTLY to H264 mp4, so we don’t have to first do an intermediate conversion & then a second conversion to Mp4. No second conversion pass means no chance of further degradation of your picture.

• We use a wide range of hard-to-source professional decks so we can check the first few minutes and select the unit that your tape looks best on. We can also offer full-frame time-base correction, available to stabilise your picture in cases where tape edge-damage has occurred, as well as Dynamic Noise Reduction.

• We supply your digitised files on tested & selected high-quality brand name USBs/HDDs at very reasonable prices. We regret that for a number of reasons we cannot accept client's USBs/HDDs. We suggest you use your USB/HDD as a backup for the files we supply you.

• Top & Tail editing, removes lengthy instances of blank footage/static/unwanted footage (such as TV shows) from the beginning or end of your wanted content. If you want the TV footage you can let us know in advance & we can record the entire tape.

Not included but available:

• Cleaning of Mould, mud (from flood waters), ant's nests, etc

• Repairs to tapes that come in broken, or which break during handling, preparation or conversion process.

• Video editing of your material, beyond for the simple top & tail editing included with your transfers


Not included and not available:

• Checking through tapes thought to possibly be duplicates, to check if they are in fact identical. The labour for this would be more expensive than having the tapes converted.

• Checking through tapes that are known to be duplicate copies of others supplied, in order to determine which copy might be the better quality item to convert. Unfortunately we can only offer to either record both tapes, or you can choose one for us to record, leaving the other as a backup choice, and we can contact you regarding digitising the backup copy if the first is not of satisfactory quality.



Service Inclusions/Policy: Film Conversions

Standard Service: This is our high quality conversion service direct to USB as Full High Definition 1080p (or optionally 2K or 4K) mp4 files. These are the most common video file format on the planet, easy to share with family & friends.

Our transfer process is a completely safe clawless, frame-by-frame, cold (LED) lamp transfer, so we cannot burn your film, nor scrunch or tear it's sprocket holes.

Because DVD is not a good long-term storage medium, and DVDs are not high definition, we can supply DVDs as an add-on extra only.


What you receive:

• Price includes a physical pre-transfer cleaning of the film itself, so your film is transferred in its best possible state. Also included is new leader tape as needed, repairs to broken tape splices or fresh breakages.

• All film (except vinegar syndrome affected film deemed too fragile) will pass through our innovative wet-gate, reducing base-side film scratches, small damage spots to the base-side, and marks caused by spidery mildew.

• A very high quality Frame-by-frame transfer process, in Full High Definition 1080p (minimum resolution) with the option to upgrade to 2K or 4K scanning.

• Safe-for-your-film clawless, frame-by-frame, cold (LED) lamp transfer technology.

• Post production editing, including basic film-grain/picture-noise reduction, tidying up obviously unwanted footage such as film leader & blank sections, as well as basic colour correction, and basic exposure adjustments.

• Supply & loading of selected models of USB sticks, or hard-drive of required capacity.


Not included but available:

• Video editing of your material for pace/interest (removing boring bits)

• Titles & subtitles

• Scene-by-scene application of colour correction, exposure adjustment, grain reduction

• Underscore (background music).

Audio Cassettes Economy Service: This is our basic conversion service which still uses all our professional equipment, but is largely "as is", with the exception of removal of extended blank passages, and audio volume normalising.


What you receive:

• Price includes a physical pre-transfer cleaning of the tape itself, so your tape is transferred in it’s best possible state. Tape cleaning can mean the difference between success & failure when saving your memories. This is why we have the highest transfer success rate in the industry.

• Conversion service as above to your choice of high-quality, tested, brand-name USB or CDs.

• 6 months FREE backup of your digitised media with RetroMedia's 3VAULT triple redundancy archiving service is included with ALL transfers. This helps form part of the 6 month warranty on your transfers.


Not included but available:

• Audio enhancement - hiss/hum reduction, compression, equalisation etc.

• Click removal.

• Repairs to tapes that come in broken, or which break during handling, preparation or conversion process.

• Tracks Splitting - We will supply a single track for each side of your cassette (unless side is silent). We can also split the track into individual songs if required at extra cost.

This is our basic conversion service for analogue dictaphone tapes. Resulting audio file is largely "as is", with the exception of removal of extended blank passages, and audio normalising. We record at the speed at which the tape commences.


What you receive:

• Conversion service as above to your choice of tested, selected, brand-name USB or CDs.

• Single-speed recording per side of tape, done at the correct speed as at the start of the recording on that side. NB: We do not do speed adjustments within the body of the content with the digitising service.

• 6 months FREE backup of your digitised media with RetroMedia's 3VAULT triple redundancy archiving service is included with ALL transfers. This helps form part of the 6 month warranty on your transfers.



Not included but available:

• Audio enhancement - hiss/hum reduction, click reduction/removal, compression, equalisation etc.

• A Wet Washing process for your vinyl record before conversion. NB: Vinyl only - Not suitable to fragile acetates.

• Conversion service as above to your choice of tested, selected, brand-name USB or CDs.

• 6 months FREE backup of your digitised media with RetroMedia's 3VAULT triple redundancy archiving service is included with ALL transfers. This helps form part of the 6 month warranty on your transfers.



Not included but available:

• Audio enhancement - click/crackle/pop reduction

• Tracks Splitting - We will supply a single track for each side of your record. We can also split the track into individual songs if required, at extra cost.

Not included and not available:

• It needs to be accepted that we can't necessarily do anything about scratches deep enough to cause track skipping or repeating. We can do a secondary run-through with added cartridge weight (which may or may not fix the problem). This second run-through may attract a surcharge of 50%. In the case of repeats, we will edit them out. Please note that this editing is not seamless.

Not included but available:

• Scanning of images unsuitable for feed scanners. See list of examples of unsuitable photos here. We can flat-bed scan these as requested, or contact you with rough quantities.

• Colour adjustments (unless included in a current promo)

• Photo retouching (photoshopping) is available on request.


Not included and not available:

• Scanning strictly in order. We can scan in groupings for you, and place images within corresponding folders on your USB, for $2.20 per folder.
