35mm format are by far the most common slides format, housed in a 50mm x 50mm square mount, usually made of cardboard or plastic, which displays a rectangular image measuring approx 35mm on the long side.
If you have any doubts about what you have please feel free to send us through a pic here. Or, if you have many different types of media, enquire about booking an in-home consultation or organising session with a RetroMedia Memory Expert. Available within the greater Brisbane/SEQ region.
We offer High Resolution 3200 ppi scanning for 35mm slides, (better than 4K screen resolution), using quality Epson V700 & V800 series scanners. We also offer upgrade options to 4800 ppi & 6400 ppi scanning. (For 110 & half frame formats we scan at 4800 ppi as standard). We do not offer low resolution scanning of such physically small originals.
Included with your high resolution scanning is individual orientation correction, and as-we-scan Epson Scan auto colour adjustment (where manual checking shows this improves the results), as well as backlight correction & exposure adjustments where necessary.
This 3200 ppi scanning resolution will give you a digital image re-printable at approx A4 size at 300 dpi print resolution, a more than 10x enlargement. And this resolution will give you an image of approx 9 megapixels, so plenty high enough resolution for viewing on even a 4K TV (8.2 megapixels), or just about any computer monitor, iPad, phone etc without digital upscaling occurring.
No minimums quantities apply, but we have a minimum charge of $33 on any RetroMedia project, so if you have a very small slides scanning job, consider bringing in your home videos, movie films, audio tapes or photos as well!
Size of job, required turnaround times, the format of your slides & the condition of the media all figure in the pricing. Rates range from as low as 89c per high resolution scan (for bulk)
Unless advised otherwise, we supply all digitised files on a single USB flash-drive of required size. The cost for supply & load of a USB depends on the size of your project, starting from $22. To make your backup responsibilities hassle-free, you can order extra USBs at any time during your 6 month warranty period.
• Or you can have it on CD for $22 per master CD. (80 min limit). Duplicate CD copies are $16.50 ea.
Please contact us for a custom quote for your quantities, your media format, your urgency & your media's condition.
• Price includes physical dusting (air blower &/or antistatic wipe)
• We will accept slides loose, in bags or boxes, trays or carousels or pouch pages, without any limitations or surcharges.
• Included at no extra cost are separate folders on the USB to match each container/box/bag.
• We will deliver a very sharp, high resolution copy of your image in its current condition, but colour adjusted (where it is an improvement), and tweaked for exposure & backlighting. This is not a restoration service with colour correction & retouching for each individual image, but we can quote on those services. .
• We scan in order where job is supplied with the running order made clear - within numbered slide boxes, slide trays & carousels. Slides in other types of boxes we'll scan in what seems to be a logical order. We cannot scan in order overall, unless every container has been numbered clearly by the client, and running orders been clearly indicated on all boxes. For jobs that contain a mixture of formats, anything other than the main format will be set aside and if we have your permission these will be scanned at the end into separate folders.
• Different formats such as 126 format (Instamatic), 110 format (Pocket Instamatic), half frame (aka single-frame or split frame) or Super 35mm are scannable with this service, but higher rates & differing scan resolutions apply to these formats. Please enquire here if you know you have some of these formats & would like to know details of rates & scanning resolutions. If we find non-35mm formats inadvertently mixed in within a submitted 35mm project, we will set these aside unscanned & at collection time we can discuss the rates with you for what we've discovered.
• Digital Ice dust reduction available (except with B&W or Kodachrome film) at an addition 55c per image.
• Scan to Tiff file available at an extra 50%.
Turnaround Timeframes:
Depending on your quantities, we’re quoting from approx 3 weeks at the moment for a slide scanning project, not including shipping time. Most jobs will be in the 3-6 weeks region, but some big jobs can take longer than that, because all digitising occurs in real time, and there are always jobs in the queue. If you’re in a hurry and need it sooner than these timeframes please let us know, and we may be able to accommodate you. A rush fee may apply.
On the other hand, if you're in no particular hurry, we also offer low priority discounts in some circumstances.

Terms for Image Scanning Projects:
• We ask for a part payment (deposit) at commencement, of 1/3rd of the estimate for your project.
• To keep things fair, for regular timeframe projects your job will go into a queue of work and will be attended in turn. Please note that predicting timeframes is not an exact science. It's simply not possible to precisely allow for unforeseen issues that may occur with obsolete media, either in your job, or in the jobs ahead of yours in the queue. So we aim at estimated timeframe targets. If you have a deadline or event, please let us know, and we can discuss options with you.
• Original media is available for collection upon full payment. Unless prior arrangements have been made, we ask for payment to be made within 7 days of invoicing. Storage fees may be levied on jobs not paid for &/or collected within 30 days of invoicing.
• We like to be as flexible as possible. We’re happy to work with you before commencement of the job to come to a mutually acceptable arrangement. But we do ask that if we have not made alternate arrangements with you before commencement, that you will honour our terms.
We understand that it isn't always easy - or even possible - to drop in to our centrally located store. So until Christmas 2024 RetroMedia is offering Free Shipping to clients who mail in their job!
